Search to resume for man missing at Waikato river mouth Print E-mail
ImageMon, 11 May 2009 6:33a.m.

Divers will begin searching again at first light today for an elderly man who fell into the Waikato River near where it empties into the Tasman Sea.

The man, 73, was apparently trying to board his boat at the mouth of the river on Saturday afternoon and fell into the water.

Police were called in but little could be done in the fading light.

A police dive squad from Wellington joined the search around 11am yesterday without results.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter service also could not locate the man.

Senior Sergeant Peter Raynes said last night the search would continue this morning.
