Man Rescued After Fall Print E-mail
Incidents
Tuesday, 30 December 2008
farmer was airlifted out of a gorge near Rangiwahia today.

The man had been staying with friends on a farm bordering the gorge while
recovering after a recent trip to hospital.

He went missing from the farm but was located by his friends with minor
injuries about 30m down a bank near the bottom of the gorge.

The Kimbolton police officer responded in the first instance then called for assistance from the Rangiwahia Volunteer Fire Brigade due to the rugged nature of the terrain.

An ambulance was dispatched from Taihape.

Palmerston North Search and Rescue were also notified as were the high angle rope rescue teams from the Palmerston North Fire Service and the Palmerston North Rescue Emergency Support Team (R.E.S.T.)

The Square Trust Rescue Helicopter with an advanced paramedic and police SAR crew were able to get to the area through a break in the weather and were able to extract the injured man with the longline.

Approximately 30 people from seven different agencies assisted with the operation.

The 58-year-old man was flown to Palmerston North Hospital where he is currently described as being in a stable condition.

Incidents
Friday, 15 August 2008
A road slip has left about 3,000 customers without water in South Auckland.

The slip closed part of Redoubt Road on Friday morning, also taking out a 100 metre section of water pipe.

Manukau Water says staff are working to repair the network, but it could take most of the day to fully repair.

The company has sent out water tankers, and is distributing bottled water.

Customers without supply are in streets bordered by Hill Road, Thomas Road, Murphys Road, and McQuoids Road through to Gracechurch Drive.

Search operation at Mt Cook Print E-mail
Incidents
Friday, 15 August 2008
A search and rescue operation is getting underway in the Mt Cook area.

The Rescue Coordination Centre says an emergency beacon was activated just after 10pm yesterday. The only people in the area it is aware of is a party of six who planned to traverse Annette Plateau from Barron Saddle to Mueller Hutt.

Rescuers have not been able to locate the party because they have not been able to search. Conditions are poor, with heavy snowfall and very limited visibility.

Land search and rescue teams cannot go in because of the avalanche risk. But a helicopter and specialist alpine search and rescue team is on standby at Mt Cook, waiting for a break in the weather.
